1 Peter 1:20-21 “Knowing this first, that no prophesy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophesy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” 2 Tim 3 “16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
This is an urgent plea to my family, friends, loved ones, to everyone that has an opportunity to read these words. Please take the time to read the entire article, and then search the scriptures for yourself to seek out the truth. I am writing this because I love you and I know that it is of vital importance for you to know the truth.
Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter ye in at the strait gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”
These passages are speaking to church goers, to people who say and believe they are saved. This is for people who think they are in the narrow way, but are not. It says “few there be that find it”! That means the majority of those who think they are headed to heaven ARE NOT! How can we be sure?
We must know who God is! For years now we have been told of how loving God is, and how if we trust in Him, He will take care of us. God is love, but that is not the whole picture of who He is. He is also Holy, Just, Perfect, He is the creator of all things, He is the destroyer of the wicked. We hear God hates the sin but loves the sinner…but the bible says Psalm 4:5-6 “The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: Thou hatest all workers of iniquity. Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the Lord will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.”
What we haven’t been hearing is that He will judge us. We have been given a picture of a God that fits into what we want Him to be, what makes us comfortable and allows us to live however we want, but this is just not truth! And I say “we have been given”, because most people that go to church listen to whatever is being taught, but they do not read and study for themselves the truth of the bible. Bible study is more than reading a daily devotion that someone else has written for you. How can you be sure that what others are saying is true? You must read and study for yourself! And in many churches today the gospel has been diluted, because they want their numbers, they want people to come to church so they preach what is lovely to hear. Let me tell you, if sin and repentance are not being taught, you are not getting the truth of the gospel!
Not only must we know who God is, but also who we are. God is holy, and when we compare ourselves to that, we realize just how depraved, wicked, and sinful man is. The bible clearly tells us that there are none good, no not one. You can find this in Psalm 14:1,3, Psalm 53:1,3, Jer 4:22, Micah 7:2, Matt 19:17, Mark 10:18, Luke 18:19, Rom 3:12. None of us are good enough to be considered righteous in the eyes of a Holy God. We must recognize our sinfulness, which the law of God shows us, so that we know our desperate need for a Savior. You see, God requires payment for sin. Rom 6:23 ”For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Jesus paid the blood sacrifice on behalf of all that belong to Him. How can we know if we are His?
Repentance is a turning from sin, a change of mind and actions. It’s not being sorry so we can escape hell, it’s a godly sorrow because we have offended our God, and turning away from doing it. Atonement equals agreement with God. We must be regenerated, made new. The old self is put to death, and we are a new creature.
Salvation is not something to be earned, it is the gift of God. What Christ did for us is sufficient. There is, however, evidence that we need to look for, to be sure that we are in the faith.
For those whose argument is Rom 10:9 “that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” This has been taken out of context to mean that all I have to do is ask Jesus into my heart and I will be saved and can live however I want because my sins are covered. THIS IS NOT TRUTH! This verse must be taken in context with the whole of scripture, and no where does it say anything about walking down the aisle and praying a prayer to ask Jesus into my heart. This was not even a practice in the church until about 100 years ago, and has contributed greatly to a great deception we have in the church today. There are many who think they are saved, and are not.
Let’s take a look at what scripture says:
Luke 6:46 “And why call ye me Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” John 8:31 “If you continue in my word, then ye are disciples indeed.” John 3:46 “He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life; but he that obeyeth not shall not see life, for the wrath of God abideth on him.” There are countless verses that call us to obedience. Luke 9:23 “And He said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” You also find this in Matt 16:24, Mark 8:34, and Mark 10:21. The domination of sin must be left, if you come to Christ. Rom 6:14 “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. John 10:27 says “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” If we truly believe, there will be obedience. This is evidence of our salvation. We can’t say we believe and then live like the world and think we are His! James 2:19-20 “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?” 1 Cor 9:27 “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be cast away.” (This is Paul talking to the Corinthians)
Ephesians 2:8 tells us “ For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” There is nothing we can do to earn our salvation! Once we have been saved, justified by the blood of Christ, then we should be seeking God and learning to obey Him. This is evidence that we are in the faith! 2 Cor 13:5 “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves.” Philippians 2:12 “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” Jer 29:13 “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” Deut 4:29 “But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find Him, if thou seek Him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.” Hosea 10:12 “Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.” Isaiah 55:6-7 “Seek ye the Lord while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord.”
Jer 4:3 “Do not sow your seed among thorns, break off all your evil habits; clear your hearts of weeds, in order that they may be prepared for the seed of righteousness.” 1 Samuel 15:22 ..”Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.” Jer 7:23 “But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.”
Acts 5:29 “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.” Acts 5:32 “And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey Him.”
Rom 6:12 “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof……vs 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for you are not under the law, but under grace.” Rom 6:16 “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” 2 Thess 1:7-8 “And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire, taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:”
Heb 5:9 “And being made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him;” 1 Peter 2:7-8 “Unto you therefore which believe He is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, and a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: where unto also they were appointed.” 1 Peter 4:17 “For the time is come that judgement must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?”
Is there anything in your life that you are not willing to give up if it was asked of you? The lesson in Matt 19:16-26 tell of the rich young ruler. He asked Jesus, what must I do for eternal life? Jesus pointed out the law to him, but he did not recognize his own depravity…so Jesus told him to sell all his possessions and give to the poor and follow Me, for Christ knew his possessions were an idol to him. The young ruler went away sad, because he was not willing to let go of his wordly wealth for Christ.
What’s more important to you? Are you willing to lay down everything for Him? Because that is what it costs. It costs us everything. Friends, family, possessions, and our very lives. Jesus told us it would be difficult, that we must die to self to follow Him, to take up our cross. The cross=death. It is not a cute decoration to be substituted for speaking truth to someone. We must tell people the whole truth if we love them, even if they hate us for it. Isaiah 55:11 “so shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” 2 Cor 2:15-16 “For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, unto them that are saved, and in them that perish: To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other of life unto life.”
What do you think about most of the time? Is it worldly things, or is it God? Rom 8:6 “ For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Philippians 4:8 “ Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Whatever you think about most, whatever is most important to you…that is your focus. If it is not God, you have some idols that need to be torn down. Repent and put your priorities in order.
Spend time in the Word and in prayer! 1 Thess 5:14-24 “Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. 15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. 16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 19 Quench not the Spirit. 20 Despise not prophesyings. 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”
The Christian life is not about God making all your worldly griefs work out well for you! It’s about looking towards His coming and realizing all the worldly things don’t matter in comparison. We must realize it’s not about us! It’s all about Him and His glory! And if we are heavenly minded, focused on the things of God, the things of this earth become less and less important to us, and sin becomes more and more exceedingly sinful to us. We decrease and Christ increases in our hearts and minds, and therefore in our actions. We look forward to being with Him face to face, and we continue to grow in Him here and now! That is abundant life…knowing Him and living for Him; not having lots of stuff or getting our way here on earth.
It is not enough to go to church, teach Sunday school, help with bible school, go on mission trips, etc. If your life doesn’t reflect a change, if you are not really seeking God, studying your bible, praying, learning and changing in obedience to what God requires, if you are not broken over your sin, then you are NOT HIS! You are NOT on the narrow path that leads to life!
Jesus died to save us from sin, why do we continue to live in it! Repent, seek God, study to be sure you know the truth, walk in His ways!
John 8:31 “If you continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
