Apprising Ministries:Sproul, Jr. Condemns “Discernment Blogs”

“Apparently because Apprising Ministries is a blog with a substantial readership and which often addresses discernment issues, then I’m but some guru running “an attack site.” Hmm, but isn’t R.C. Sproul, Jr. on the attack here himself? This is a real part of the problem. On one hand Seeker Driven prophet-pastor Steven Furtick will complain about haters criticizing him, but then turn around and attack them in a video called Hey Haters.

Has R.C. Sproul, Jr. considered why someone like Furtick is being criticized? Well, since he brought up Word Faith prosperity heretic Joel Osteen, is Sproul. Jr. aware that Steven Furtick Calls Joel Osteen A Great Man Of God? Are we really supposed to just ignore that Now Joel Osteen Says Mormonism Itself Is Christian? Or how about when we see that ER2 was largely about giving T.D. Jakes, another WF mogul, a doctrinal pass?

Do we just remain silent as James MacDonald implies that in some private discussions Jakes has told him he’s moving away from WF prosperity preaching? Yet I just showed you in T.D. Jakes Is Not A Word Faith Prosperity Preacher? that in March, after ER2, Jakes did his usual shilling for the WF haven of the Trinity Broadcasting Network. This isn’t TBN but you can watch Jakes with his Prosperity Gospel; Sow A Seed, God Will Bless You.

That was just a couple of weeks before he came to ER2. And we’re supposed to say nothing when Steven Furtick has T.D. Jakes into his evangelical megachurch to speak at his revival and then literally gushes when he tells us T.D. Jakes Is My Favorite Preacher In The World? Maybe we should address celebrity-bullies using their large forums and having their same old buddies into each of their conferences in order to equate their critics with Nazis.

How a blog post about that; or is it just safer shooting fish in a barrel while addressing anonymous bloggers…”

Just my 2 cents…

Why are some people who claim to be so committed to a belief, religion, political position etc., so offended when their position is challenged, and they refuse to defend their position? Is it because they fear confrontation or that either they are ignorant of what they say they are commited to or lack confidence in their position altogether?

Obama notes:

Not knowing their microphones were still on, the idiot is chief and the French dwarf president are caught bad-mouthing Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu. What a bunch of phonies and pansies. Netanyahu is more a leader, and a man, that those two misfits ever thought of being.

Nothing is safe anymore, as the Obama Agriculture department has announced they are placing a tax on Christmas trees. What’s next….I started to say what’s next but it probably already taxed whatever it is.

Mississippi voters defeat of Proposition 26 which sought to declare that life begins at conception, is more proof of the retardation of this backwards state. I live here and work here, but not totally by my choice. As soon as I can, Im gone, never to return.

Penn State is wrapped up in a horrible scandal involving one of its former football coaches is accused of sexually molesting young boys during a camp he put together. Jerry Sandusky faces 40 charges. This is of course the most awful part of the story. But what also is disturbing is the cowardly lack of response by the Penn State athletic department, football coach Joe Paterno, the former player who was an eye-witness to one incident and didn’t report it to police, and the ignorant behavior of students on that campus cheering Paterno. You people are sick and need to get a life, or for some, a life sentence. But hey…it’s football, and we can’t interrupt the sport. Losers!

Speaking of losers…Joel Osteen is back in the news yet again, this time suckin up and puckerin up to pagan deceiver Oprah Winfrey. Christian Research Net posts a story from including a video of Rev. Smiley’s remarks….

Television mogul Oprah Winfrey and stage and movie producer Tyler Perry created a stir with a surprise appearance at Pastor Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, Sunday for an 11 a.m. service.

“Awesome to have you!” said Osteen, announcing their presence and welcoming the celebrities to the church. “We’re so honored to have you both here, and we just celebrate and pray for you guys with what God is doing in your lives.”

Apprising Ministries also notes:

Though Winfrey professes to be a Christian, as I showed you in Oprah Winfrey Speaking As A Christian, her testimony and teaching simply doesn’t bear that out. We need to be praying for her salvation because she has no relationship with God; she is currently an outspoken enemy of the Cross of Christ (cf. Philippians 3:18).

I say again Osteen is a heretic, a false prophet and a joke.

The Elephant Room and T.D. Jakes

In case you haven’t been following, James McDonald, pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel in Elgin, Illinois, started a discussion group, which is taped and posted online, called The Elephant Room. There has actually only been one such meeting as I understand, and the first involved Mark Driscoll, Perry Noble and others. Understandably the conversation was lively, some say even heated, and has definitely caused some controversy.

In the last week or so the news came out that Dr. McDonald intends to host T.D. Jakes on the next panel discussion. When I first read this, I immediately wondered what the context of a discussion with Jakes would be. Jakes is an open prophet and promoter of the Word of Faith heresy and he affirms the equally heretical oneness or Modalist doctrine, whose basic tenets includes a denial of the holy Trinity and that salvation must include speaking in tongues and you must be baptized by immersion and in the name of Jesus only.

My other initial thought was would those involved in the Elephant Room discussions be star-struck by Jakes and melt in awe in his celebrity and thusly be hesitant to ask tough questions. I have seen it time and time again especially when a situation involves Rick Warren or Joel Osteen. It seems that when someone sells a few books or chalks up “big numbers” in a churches attendance, then they become immune to hardball questions.

My main concern is will the Elephant Room group appease T.D. Jakes and buddy-up with him, or will they be bold and direct in defense of the Gospel and call Jakes to account for his heresy and call on him to repent?

Apprising Ministries-Opening Up The Shack

Apprising Ministries takes a further look into The Shack Bible Project in this new piece after John Stonecypher responds to a previous article. The thing is, Stonecypher makes the claim to be in line with Christian doctrine; Apprising confronted him because he’s clearly not in accord with Scripture. And just wait until you see how contemplative teacher and author Eugene Peterson figures in to all of this.

John MacArthur Comments on ‘New Calvinism’

from Apprising Ministries

What seems to be happening is the formation of a postmodern form of Calvinism where one embraces select portions of Reformation theology, while at the same time practicing the anti-sola Scriptura spirituality of Counter Reformation theology. With this in mind, I point you to 10 Questions with John MacArthur posted at The Christian Worldview blog of David Wheaton.

In response to the question, “Since you wrote Charismatic Chaos we have seen the unexpected confluence of Reformed theology with charismatic beliefs (such as in the Sovereign Grace family of churches). If you were to write the book today, how would you affirm both love and critique for today’s Reformed Charismatics?,” Dr. MacArthur replies:

I would affirm my love and appreciation for C. J. Mahaney, Wayne Grudem, John Piper, and other conservatives in the continuationist camp. I consider these men to be friends and allies for the sake of the gospel. Charismatic Chaos was primarily written against the excesses of the broader Pentecostal and Charismatic movements. And those excesses are not what these men are best known for.

But, I would still challenge these men to reconsider their position on the charismatic gifts. I am convinced that the charismatic movement opened the door to more theological error than perhaps any other factor in the twentieth century (including liberalism, psychology, and ecumenism). That’s a bold statement, I know. But once you allow experientialism to gain a foothold, the results are disastrous.

Moreover, I am thoroughly convinced that the biblical description of the charismatic gifts is incompatible with the charismatic gifts practiced in Pentecostal and Charismatic churches today. For example, Acts 2 is explicit in describing the gift of tongues as the ability to speak previously unlearned foreign languages. The rest of the New Testament affirms this same understanding (as does the testimony of the church fathers). But that is the very opposite of the nonsensical gibberish that characterizes modern glossolalia.

So I would challenge them to explain why they hold on to a modern practice that, in reality, has no biblical precedent—especially when that modern practice is the gateway to all sorts of theological error. (Online source)

You, Me, I…..

The caption says Saddleback Church, but you couldn’t tell it’s a “church” from the building, emotions of the people/performers, and most definitely not from the lyrics of the Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana song. It resembles any run-of-the-mill recording session at most studios. This reminds me of a church service I was at once where a visitor was asked to come to the platform and sing that great hymn of the faith Love Can Build a Bridge by The Judds. There were many eyes closed and swaying hands that morning I guarantee you.

This video is sad, upsetting and far too typical in a lot of American churches today. Some will say I’m, too harsh, but I would describe this as selfish garbage.
